Oh friends!

Liz here writing to say that I've just returned from New Mexico and an awesome session at my school. When I pulled into our driveway, so eager to see my sweetie after two weeks away, no one was to be found! And then suddenly I saw my dear Curtis running across the yard to the goat shack. When he saw me a wild grin spread across his face and he yelled, "Gloria's having her babies!"

Yep, it's true, I arrived just after Gloria's first kid was born, and was there to see her twin brother come into the world. Perfect timing! Oh, they are so sweet. All dark gray, and reddish, and cream. Both babies and mama are happy and healthy. They are full of wiggly tails, and little "bip, bip" noises.

And true to form, right after those babes were born the snow started. We got a solid foot of white in one day! Last year all our kids were born into late spring snow-storms, and so far, the pattern is holding!

And so! The first two of you who've earned the right to name a baby goat on our Indiegogo Campaign--the time has come! Gregory Laduna, a little girl baby for you to give name to, and Erin and Lane Trisko, a boy for you! I can't wait to hear what you come up with!

All our girls were bred on the same day, so any day now we're hoping for more babes! We'll keep you posted.

I thought everyone could use a good seasoning of color this snowy Friday here in Minnesota.  A little reminder that good things are in store for us soon...
I just came in from checking on the goats.  We sheared our four Angoras on Saturday, and they had a good weekend of warm weather to get used to being without their coats before Old Man Winter blew down again.  These strong spring low pressure systems can also bring on a birth when a mama is due soon, and they are all due to kid in the next couple of weeks.  Which means it's almost time for the adorable and cute factor here on the farm to skyrocket.  I was looking through pictures of our kids from last spring and found this one of Lily and Bolero (and Hazel's legs) with their mama Isa, who is our La Mancha milk goat. She has been kind enough to give us milk throughout this long and cold winter, so we have had a robust diet of chevre on most everything.  I recently made my first cheese press and have started work on a  goat cheddar recipe, with pert good success so far, though admittedly the sample size has been limited to one wheel.  What is one to do but "sample" another?

Meanwhile, upstairs in our creatively engineered cat-resistant greenhouse, our veggie and flower starts are rockin' it.  We've got tomatoes, peppers, okra (a new one for me), broccoli, a whole slug of flowers and herbs, and a long list of about 17 others to plant this weekend.  We're going for the shotgun approach this year in regards to variety, with over 30 different types of tomatoes and about 20 kinds of lettuces.  Crazy?  Perhaps, but we're still learning what does well here in our very mutable Minnesota climate.
