Cafe de Paris Dahlia Tuber
Cafe de Paris is a new introduction to the Cafe family. She's got the exact same color variation that you see in Cafe au Lait, everything ranging from cream to blush to pink streaks, but with the tubular petals of semi-cactus form flowers. The highly textured blooms are eye catching to say the least, in a color that most of the floral industry is clamoring for most of the time.
We had some nutritional issues this season, with heavy carbon application tying up too much nitrogen, and I was still impressed with the height and health of these plants! The foliage was deep green, glossy, and tall. Though, until we got the nutrition sorted out, the flowers bloomed with more open centers, as you would expect, and had a vaguely tortured look to them. But once they were getting what they needed--Oh my! Full petals, closed centers, and deep form. Like holding a blushing firework in your hand!
The blooms were about 4-6 inches, and incredibly vigorous and productive. We gave them support, but they seemed quite strong on their own.
Such a cool flower!
